This is a movie summary of what we did during Mindfulness Week 2009. The 7th grade students participated in a range of wonderful and "mindful" activities. All students were trained to teach about each of the animals at TRAK (The Therapeutic Ranch for Animals and Kids). In addition, students got their hands dirty moving rocks, digging holes, and planting plants in the beautiful garden we planted in front of our school library. Furthermore, students made personal mendalas that focused on their "core center, stronghouses, and their foreveries" in their lives. Then the students transferred their ideas to a painted piece of wood that became part of a larger mendala for the whole 7th grade. You can see this large mendala hung outside our middle school office. Students relaxed and meditated in various other activities including yoga, oudoor play, journaling, and nature hikes. On Friday morning, all 7th grade students took a trip to visit the Tucson Botanical Gardens and hung out with the butterflies. We ended the week with a picnic in the garden, eating tacos, and listening to a wonderful jazz band.
