My brother's friend was telling me about his time in Iraq. I had asked him if he killed anyone and he said yes. Several. And then I asked what it was like. He told me it was terrible. Then he said these exact words.
"Killing a man. That's enough of a terrible feeling as it is. You want to know what's worse than that feeling? Killing a man up close, and getting to look him in the eyes just as he's dieing. There's no worse feeling than that."

@ImaginedWriter Yeah, wasn't Cannae the bloodiest one day battle in history because the next bloodiest one day battle would be the battle of Borodino in the Napoleonic wars with about 35,000 casualties on Napoleons side and about 45,000 on the Russian side with over 6,500 killed on both sides and thousands died of wounds later. Historian Gwynne Dyer compared the carnage at Borodino to a fully-loaded 747 crashing, with no survivors, every 5 minutes for eight hours.
