@TransparentChocolate If you learn good critical thinking skills, eventually it will all melt away - unless it is an anxiety thing that needs meds/therapy. The more you know about hiw things actually work, though, the less you'll fear cheesy explanation that can't work in reality.

Your "science saved my soul" video helped me so much to break free of irrational fears. But the process began when I decided that the only way to stop fearing hell was to go right through it - because if everything I am is evil, it makes sense to be friendly with the boss of evil. I didn't know enough then to just get away from spirituality, so I just did things like that, walking through what I was afraid of one step at a time. The work is worth it, and becomes easier over time.

P.S. I remember when I was six or so, on really windy days I wondered if ghosts would blow away. And if maybe that was why they haunted houses--shelter from the wind--instead of haunting something else like trees. XP

I am trapped by my parents beliefs. I want to free my mind, but fear of condescendment stops me. Its not fair that i should be bound by someone elses ignorance.

now i know what's up with that ghost speeding past me at 107,000 km/h every year.

Atheism is but a first step towards a perfect world.
So here's my question: is there any way to know how long it will take for my subconscious mind to catch up to my conscious mind, if it does at all? How long before conscious knowledge can dispel irrational fear? Because there are plenty of things I still fear even KNOWING they're silly. Many have diminished as I have let go of superstition, but I am worried that so many irrational fears remain as the after-image of beliefs no longer held.

@TransparentChocolate "How long before conscious knowledge can dispel irrational fear?"
Excellent question. It takes a second...when it finally happens, but you have to read books to get to that point. It's up to you. Do you want to be free of those fears enough? Do they trouble you enough for it to be worth the effort of reading 4-5 books?
