In 1979 Larrakia Aborigines and their suppporters won 301 hectares of vacant Crown land at Kulaluk in Darwin after a long land rights struggle documented in the book "Bunji". Five years later huge drain digging machines moved onto Kulaluk to dig a network of 'mosquito drains'. During the night a shadowy group known as the 'Kulaluk Liberation Front' damaged the machines . Next day a spokesman for the group, Mr Bill Day who was living on the lease justified the KLF's action to the media.
