Two-time Olympic 10,000-meter champion Haile Gebrselassie broke the world one-hour and 20-kilometer marks at the Golden Spike Grand Prix athletics meeting on Wednesday. The 34-year-old Ethiopian ran 21.285 kilometers in 60 minutes to surpass Mexican Arturo Barrios's previous mark of 21.101 kilometers, set in La Fleche, France, on March 30, 1991. On the way, he also broke the 20-kilometer world mark of 56 minutes, 55.60 seconds, set by Barrios during his run in 1991. Gebrselassie clocked 56:25.98. (WCSN, WCSN.com)

  • @athleteization cool. i agree on that but it still doesn't explain stereotyping. all i'm gonna say

  • @Timoulos Not going to lie, I've heard a lot of American announcers, and most of them just simply don't know what is going on in a track race. They hire for the TV/radio voice and give them a small bout of knowledge on the sport. Are all this way? I would hope not, but I've seen a lot of track races, and a LOT of bad announcers. Shame that some American's are so narrow-minded to only do their homework on american football, basketball and baseball.

  • @athleteization Lol I know you're an American, it doesn't change the fact that you're completely stereotyping American announcers (which is a ridiculous thing to do btw). Yes they're bad announcers but there is nothing else to it. It doesn't mean ANYTHING about any other announcers.

  • @Timoulos First off, I'm an American citizen as I said. But come on people, do your damn homework. At least pronounce the guys name right. Then she say's "what, meters?" after that. I can understand letting something slip like a small statistic, but forgetting a guy's name and the base unit of length in track is just staggering.

  • @athleteization I know this is 4 months late of a reply, and I apologize for that, but seriously, who do you think you are to stereotype Americans like that? I laugh at stupid announcers, and I've heard plenty of worse announcers beyond the U.S. You, sir, need to climb out of the fucked up land you live in and open your eyes

  • ohhhh, hayley. I guess the announcer was in the booth with his wife...who's apparently named hayley.

  • @FeelinLight lol!

  • @DARKSTAR256 Announcer said 52

  • @QCSkateMedia Let's be truthful. We wouldn't hear this out of a British commentator. Why is it the American's showing such ignorance? These two announcers are clearly Americans, (Carol Lewis, the female announcer, is an idiot beyond comprehension). I feel ashamed for our country to spew out such ignorant announcers. We don't see this is idiocy in foreign announcers.

  • @athleteization Oh no doubt I would definitely laugh, but I would not be ashamed in the least to be an American athlete if one was to do it. The announcer should be ashamed, not me.
