Ireland brought religious wars to Scotland and England back in the 19th century when the Protestants from the North and the Catholics from the South met each other in cities there were a lot of riots and violence and murders and shit. Also, when the Republic was formed the North stayed for two days before seceding back into the UK. This was generally approved by Protestants but not by Catholics, and violence ensued.

IRA undefeated? The IRA killed more Catholics than Brit Soldiers and RUC officers (who were usually off-duty / unarmed / unable to protect themselves.)

p.s. Only about 200 were killed by the IRA, the other 100 were killed by the other side of the equilibrium (the Protestants).
