Since the start of the disaster recovery, The Salvation Army has been an
integral part of the disaster-relief effort, extending help and assistance
to over 2.6 million people affected by Hurricane Katrina. In 2006, The
Salvation Army launched a Community Recovery Plan for the affected areas with the objectives of building community capacity, sustaining affordability,
ensuring quality of life and improving community resilience.
