This Native American produced video explores the issue of racial identity among Native and African Americans. "We were told 'if you could pass for white, that's who you'd be; if not, it was usually better to be identified as black than Indian." lack Indians have been virtually forgotten except by those who shared Native American, African American heritages. Even
today, black Indians meet skeptics who refuse to accept their ancestry. This film brings to light a forgotten part of Americans past -- the cultural and racial fusion of Native and African Americans. Narrated by James Earl Jones, "Black Indians: An American Story" explores what brought the two groups together, what drove them apart and the challenges they face today. It examines
the coalescence of these two groups in American history. Discounted, and often
ignored by mainstream America, these minority peoples have often shared a
common past. However, with their heritage ignored and their contributions
denied they are all but invisible at the dawn of the new millennium. Voted the Best Native American Film 2001.

  • @AztecTripleAlliance I am African American and native american. I knopw the difference between the two. My mother raised me to know my Native american side. I am culturally and geneticaly Native American and black. I will not let some racist minority like you discourage my NATIVE AMERICAN upbringing because you don't like black people. Thank god my mother taught me to love all people of all races. I know many american blacks that have REAL native blood. Some speak the language.

  • Its pretty ignorant for any white person to actually think that every person of color is 100% african..only a stupid person with no logic, education or critical thinking skills would think something of this nature. My girls are red skin with red hair and both me and my wife are red skinned toned..we both have Native american genetics..its amazing how ignorant most people are to judge every person of color as being a negro..and people wounder why this country is in the whole its in..smdh..

  • @shajane what you said is true.. Many were ashamed. It was easier to say that then to say what really happened.but, there are some with native amerian ancestry just not as many that think they do. I've seen that while watching African American lives..a show where they look at their ancestry and also do ethnic DNA test.they would talk about the Indian and how so and so had the hair or high cheek bones and etc then get told they have 0%. But, there are some that do.

  • ultimate survivors i think thats a bit much...

  • @AmerikanPatriot

Native-Americans were not racial slavers - as Whites were - they treated their Black slaves as they treated all of their slaves - badly. Let's not get too White supremacist.

  • @Lacubanitamasbonita Actually I know alot, I have full blooded native americans in my family, and alot of friends that are Native. Out side of that unlike alot of MF's I sat down and learned about my families history. I just don't go around spewing nonsense.
