WTTW's Chicago Tonight examines a first-of-its-kind coal plant. The construction of Taylorville Energy Center will start in late 2007. The plant will using coal gasification technologies, which have the potential to reduce coal's harmful effect on the environment.
This clean coal is nothing more than propaganda. The coal-gasification process still has a waste stream of toxic waste that has to be managed. Coal-gasification has been around for over a century and has left a legacy of contaminated waste in its wake. Many communities are still being poisoned today from that legacy.
