I have a 4 and the 5 string bass, and I use them quite often both, depending on what kind of music I'm playing. I have tryed playing 6 string basses but I found out that I don't need that C string, at least not at the moment. If I ever find myself needing an extra string I'll make sure to get another bass :-D
BTW Great bass (had exactley the same), great sound and great lesson! Rock on!!!

yeah but the next step is throwin tremelo picking with 3 fingers into those octaves...thats a rough one.

@plangentmusic All round, I think I like the 5 string best... I'd have a hard time going back to just four now at this point! There's so much more you can do with the extra string(s).
