In the first of a six-part series, Andrew Marr revisits Britain at the dawn of the 20th century. He finds the country mourning the death of Queen Victoria; fighting an intractable war against the Boers in South Africa; enjoying the bawdy pleasures of music hall; and worrying about the physical and moral strength of the working class.

There are stories of political intrigue between David Lloyd George and his arch enemy Joseph Chamberlain; the beginning of the struggle for women's suffrage; and an account of the day Mr Rolls met Mr Royce and kicked off a revolution in motoring.

With powerful archive and vivid anecdotes, Andrew Marr gets to the heart of Edwardian Britain. He brings to life Britain's struggle to maintain its imperial power in the world in the years before the First World War.

Relax. Americans make "good" documentaries specific subjects with specific perspectives. I am not saying American documentaries are bad, but BBC made better documentaries because not that many Americans made a documentary that explains the changing American from the 60s to the 80s, and the post-cold war.

It is time for Americans to make great historical documentaries that can surpass BBC, rather than some cheap propaganda like Zeitgeist, Obama 2016, or Bowling for Colombine.

Germany signed the Versailles Treaty because they were the criminals of the Blank Cheque with Austria; they were the ones who unjustly broke the Treaty of London via the infamous Schlieffen Plan; they were the ones who held the ring against Russia. The assassination merely sparked conflict between Austria and Serbia. It is apparent that Georges did indeed want to punish Germany - but this was not emulated by Lloyd-George. Your last statement is correct but it is not what you had previously said.

prime minister george of britain and president clemenceau of france after the armistice was signed were determined to PUNISH germany for their actions during world war one completely forgetting that it was the assassination of the arch duke in serbia that set off the powder keg of nationalistic rivalries in europe. assigning the blame on germany for world war one through the versailles treaty with reparations and punishments on that country sowed the seeds of world war 2.
