I'm so tired of people saying she's not beautiful. She is very beautiful in an unusual, exotic way. Her face stayed vividly in my mind for five years after seeing this once, while so many "typical beauties" are, to me, eminently forgettable. I'm beginning to wonder if most Americans have been brainwashed to recognize only a particular, very limited kind of beauty. Or perhaps one has to be an artist to appreciate a face like Maria Ewing's.

Well beauty is subjective, but you could say that about any adjective. What I was meaning to say in a tactful and superflous way is that she's not good looking, but talent and charisma are hot, and she IS talented and charismatic.

Thank you so much for sharing this masterpiece with the community. I never had a chance to attend a live presentation of Bizet's Carmen, one of my favorite operas - this is as close to being there as it gets. Thank you for such a high quality upload, it got tears to my eyes. I was impressed by the performance of the artists as well as the outstanding orchestra.  Thank you again,

I've seen about...6 or 7 women play Carmen before, but I've never seen one this aggressive or to-the-point before! It's a real change and quite refreshing! Very impressed.
