Fascinating -- hypnotic -- and I wonder what species is that one lone bird that keeps diving into and disrupting the flock.... great video. Do they swarm like this feeding off a swarm of insects perhaps?

@tjrev This is a sparrow-hawk, another bird of prey, but the sparrows do this every night anyway, before getting to their sleepingspot, the thousands of them. Have watch this in another part of Utrecht (Oog en Al) for 20 years every year. Its an amazing happening to watch.

@hypergenius nee, is alleen voor zonsondergang, zo rond zes uur/half zeven. De laatste dagen worden de aantallen kleiner, dus moet je opschieten. Anders zijn ze vertrokken richting hun broedgebied (noord- en oost europa)
