Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, almost the size of the Island of Oahu but lots more interesting, is a fascinating, vast, unimaginable place. A worthy examination of the many wonders, views, road and trails would take even the most cursory visitor at least a couple of days. Indeed, most people, once they get into the park, realize to their chagrin that they have not left themselves nearly enough time to explore. Volcanic activity and scenic magnificence aside, simply the play of light across the landscape from dawn to dusk through the rapidly changing weather provides an ever-evolving panoply of magic that will enchant and delight all day. A word to the wise: plan to spend a great deal of time in this engaging place.
Sometimes, however, it is not possible to squeeze everything we might want to do into a single trip to Hawaii...so the question comes up, how do we get a good feel for Hawaii Volcanoes National Park if all we have is a few hours or a single day to spend? The tours outlined below are designed to maximize your experience by focusing on the most unusual, the most exciting and the most interesting features of this wildly diverse Park.
