Should We Drop the Drinking Age to 18 - August 23, 2008

College Presidents recently put out a press release explaining they don't think the 21 drinking age is working. They didn't say it directly, but it implied they wanted to lower the drinking age to 18. Tell you what: I think that is a great idea. How about that for a pastor's perspective.

Actually it didn't go to commercial, Allen played a clip, but his producer didn't have the audio routed right and didn't get to the camera.

my own theory of alcohol abuse isn't "the facebooking" as much as it is the fact that they're getting away with something. If it's going to be the same crime with a six pack, why not a couple kegs?  Kids don't learn to drink a pitcher with buddies. They get to a big party with a lot of booze and it's all going to get drank!

There's obvious arguments for all the privilages 18 year old are allowed. There is no obvious reason for 21 being the age that someone is qualified to have 1 drink.

You Americans are the odd ones out in attitudes to alcohol. You have such a proud tradition of good quality beers and whiskies. You need to get over the whole 1930s prohibition/ christian moral panic thing. I'd like to see how you'd last in countries like Republic of Ireland, Britain, Germany, Australia etc. Teens there drink freely and are not mentally deformed by alchol as you so believe. Glad I live in England.

And lowering the drinking age to 18 will only CONTRIBUTE TO THE PROBLEM!!

These college kids have no business drinking PERIOD!! THEY BOOZED, THEY LOSE!!!

Their BRAINS are NOT FULLY DEVELOPED til their mid 20s. Adding alcohol to that mix will be disastrous! Lowering the drinking age would do nothing but allow more kids unlimited access to alcohol since they wont need a fake id to risk jailtime for themselves and wont need someone else to buy it for them and risking jail for them.
