Great singer, but to call him the "best" is a hard call. However he would definately be up there with George Strait, George Jones, Hank Williams, the main theme here though is the REAL COUNTRY singers, not what they call country now.

I was only about 12 or 13 when Keith passed away but even at that age I knew we had lost a true voice of county music. I offten think if Garth would have become as big as he became if Keith was still alive,

I was literally sitting in a bar in Downtown Austin when I heard this old sweet familiar voice. One of the bartenders had plugged their iPod's to the sound system and in the midst of Lady Gaga, Rihanna and Eminem was Keith Whitley singing "Ten Feet Away." Odd song to hear and bartender and I struck up conversation for our secret love of country music. I'd forgotten how awesome Keith Whitley was. Definitely one of the greats of all time.
