Richard Dawkins is one of Britain's foremost scientists. A zoologist and fellow of New College, Oxford, he now holds the Charles Simonyi Chair for the Public Understanding of Science. He is the author of best selling books including The Selfish Gene, The Blind Watchmaker, The Extended Phenotype and most recently The God Delusion.

He has presented television documentaries for Channel 4 including The Root of All Evil? and The Enemies of Reason. He is well known for his atheism and his forthright criticism of religious doctrine. In the forthcoming Channel 4 series Dawkins on Darwin he argues that Darwinism provides a more thrilling view of creation than any religion.

The following clips were filmed in front of a live audience at Cheltenham Science Festival. Richard Dawkins provides a gripping insight into Darwin's theory of evolution and all that it implies.

Religion lives in ignorance and that's the secret of its survival for thousands of years

As is shown on here - in the face of a genius like Dawkins christians and others continue to ignore the mounting evidence

But it looks as though the next 100 years will make this impossible - children looking at men like Dawkins and the obvious common sense they speak will never consider religion for a second

All this talk of specific holy books and references. Islam, Judaism and Christianity are all barbaric and are all totally fucked. if a woman is raped, it is a shame/dishonor to her father or husband and she should be punished according to islam. homos should be stoned according to the torah and old testament in the bible. in the new testament, jesus himself says something to the affect of "bring all who dont wish me their king before me and slay them in front of me". All of you people should die

Forget Sabretooth tigers richard i would have used a contemporary term. Like maybe a construction worker on a high rise. Sweat falling into your eyes at the wrong time can be host to myriad chances for death

@Neeboopsh ---- cont/correction: to be clear, i'm not advocating thought crime punishment. if you kill someone for being gay, you should be jailed. or if you attempt to. or if your society thinks stoning women for adultery, your government should be pressured by its citizens to correct barbaric laws and international human rights efforts should take economic and political steps to modernize law.

@brdy well of course i was being a twat on purpose. i dont actually think that people who loosely follow a barbaric book should be killed. that being said, if you are willing to kill someone for being gay because a book says so, you should be removed from society (ie: incarceration) so that you cannot act on your heinous beliefs. education, or de-conversion or whatever you want to call it becomes increasingly difficult the more deep the belief. deep enough to stone an 8y/o girl? unlikely changed
