Mr. Akapol Sorasuchart, TCEB President, outlines Thailand's strengths in bidding for World Expo 2020.

Although various countries intend to bid for World Expo 2020, Thailand has many strengths in favor of its bid. Our strategic location in Southeast Asia facilitates reaching ASEANs 500 million people, while Bangkok is a major center of aviation, business and finance in Asia. By 2020, Bangkoks mass transit systems will be extended to all parts of the city, ensuring ease of movement for visitors and residents. In addition, our experience in successfully hosting prestigious international sporting events, world congresses, exhibitions and conventions highlights Thailands readiness and capability to host World Expo 2020.

Countries hosting a world expo are assured of significant benefits from the large numbers of visitors who will attend the 6-month-long event far in excess of attendance figures for the Olympic Games. Activities before and during the world expo make sizeable contributions to the economy of the host country, while showcasing its attributes and attractions to the world.
