Fay Ray were one of the great undiscovered secrets of the British New Wave.

They were formed from the ashes of Bangor's Hot Water and garage band Dick Dick & the Dicks.

Based in Bangor, North Wales, they were "spotted" at their first London gig and signed by Surrey Sound Records - an indie label set up by Nigel Gray - producer of the first three Police albums.

They subsequently recorded their first single "Family Affairs", produced by Nigel Gray and recorded at Surrey Sound studios in Leatherhead.

Family Affairs was Melody Maker joint single of the week (along with The Teardrop Explodes' "Reward" and The Passions "I'm In Love With A German Film Star".

The band were then signed by WEA International, and recorded "Contact You", released in 1982 on WEA in Great Britain & Europe and Elektra in the U.S.

This was Fay Ray's second single, taken from the "Contact You" album.

The band split in 1982, but still perform occasionally. The last gig was in February 2007.

Check out their other video - Modern Lovers, and some previously-unseen live TV footage (to be added shortly).

  • Still one of my favorite bands from the 80's. Sheila's voice still gives me the chills!!!

  • @SCPackerfan I heard this once on a college radio station in North Carolina in '82 and didn't find it again until this video a couple of years ago.

  • i remembered this album when my Buyer 'Eric salvador bought this to me.

  • seriously, Fay Ray really is one of the best kept secrets in terms of New Wave bands! Contact You is a fine album, if you can find it :/

  • Wow i am not from this era at all but i love bands like new order, joy division etc and to find this band is awesome they very impressive, I so need to get hold of this somehow.

  • Oh man what a flashback! I LOVED THIS!

  • What a blast from the past!! Brings back a load of memories of the Bangor music scene of the late seventies/ early eighties, Plas Coch on Tuesdays etc. Hot Water Pushy Pushy Band and Fat Ray inspired me to ppick up a guitar and teach myself to play, and I had some great times and met some great people as a result. Wish I could lay my hands on a copy of "Contact You" - lost mine years ago. Never knew there were videos. How are you Tony? Long time no see. Andy Tax.

  • I saw this video on MTV back in 1982. I only saw it once, but I never forgot it. Great song, great visuals. Thanks for posting this.
