This is an amazing solo by David Gilmour of Pink Floyd. It needs to be played with a real precision and attention to detail. David Gilmour's distinctive style is slow and extremely clear on every note. The phrases are often simpler than you expect. In this video, firstly I demonstrate the solo and then break it down into 26 simple phrases. You can follow these using the tab. Also there is a chord breakdown of the backing track.

See
http://www.danbohane.co.uk/lessons_songs_and_riffs.html

for full diagrams. Scroll to the bottom of the page and you will find this lesson in the advanced section.
I recomend you create your own chordal backing and then try to fit the phrases on in time.

  • Dan, thanks a lot for this perfect lesson, gave me motivation to start with this great song. Even a stupid guy like me is able to work through the sections you explained. Now its on me to find the right feeling for timing and all details. My wish for 2011 is to find your explanation on the other parts as well. Looking forward...

  • great video lesson, thanks.

  • Bad background... :(

  • well... i bet he likes ChUnCkS

  • jesus christ, the solo is up to the player, i mean well done to this guy for working it out by ear, but if anyone reading this knows scales, its all in G which is personally

my favourite key to solo cause im also a santana fan lol. just mess around on the G scale to this song and satisfy yourself. if you dont know scales look them up on youtube but to be honest only a beginner wouldnt already know scales. this songs solos are very bendy and require a lot of vibrato

  • in second and third bar, this diferrente the video with what you wrote in tablature

  • hah, so british!

  • @refhark He looks nothing like Gilmour!

  • sorry... but the tempo have a little deffects...
