foil is the starter weapon, but once u get really good at it and play against really good people foil is by far the most intence sword because the target area is the smallest and its a game of who can basically fool the other.

Man I'm 16 and pretty athletic... We're doing fencing in gym next week and I'm so pumped, but the videos on youtube look odd.

The swords look flimsy, how the fuck are you supposed to parry?

I was watching some world champion sabre bouts on youtube and they were just lunging at each other, haha. Can I simply beat people because of my long reach? Or would they be able to knock my flimsy sword out of the way easily? Could I put enough authority behind it to make definite that it will land?

Sword fighting is definitely the best sport in the world because it simulates death and it's a sport of focusing on tagging you're target without being touched by you're opponent most simplistic form of combat ever.

I fenced for a decent number of years when I was in middle school and high school, thinking about getting back into it in college... I remember the only thing I was looking forward to was being able to fence saber, but once I got invited to the advanced classes I just wanted to stay with foil. =P
