Broadband Commission: Working Group on Youth

17 May 2011, First Meeting of the Working Group on Youth: The objective of the Working Group will be to acquire a younger perspective on many of the complicated issues which have been raised in the context of the Commission. Trends in ICT usage are driven to a large extent by younger generations, which is why their input is especially important for the Commission's work. Furthermore, access to ICTs is becoming an increasingly vital component for any young person's development, alongside other crucial elements like education, which is why this issue must be given close attention at the highest possible level. The coordinators of the Working Group on Youth will attempt to work closely with the organizers of other UN youth events due to take place during 2011, with the intention of developing a document prepared exclusively by young people, which emphasizes the important issues raised above. This document should be as inclusive as possible and feature contributions from multiple stakeholders, from diverse backgrounds. This document will then be presented by the Broadband Commission to the UN General Assembly in the final quarter of 2011, with the intention that it leads to a stand-alone declaration on Youth and ICT.
