The Unification Church is a new religious movement founded by Korean religious leader Sun Myung Moon. In addition to providing and sustaining spiritual, scriptural, and liturgical functions and structures for its worldwide community of believers, the Unification Church, like many religious organizations, owns, operates, and subsidizes organizations and projects involved in political, cultural, commercial, media, educational, and other activities. The church, its members and supporters as well as other related organizations are sometimes referred to as the "Unification Movement."

Unification Church beliefs are summarized in the textbook Divine Principle and include belief in a universal God; in striving toward the creation of a literal Kingdom of Heaven on earth; in the universal salvation of all people, good and evil, living and dead; and that a man born in Korea in the early 20th century received from Jesus the mission to be realized at the second coming of Christ. Members of the Unification Church believe this Messiah is Sun Myung Moon.

In 1954, the Unification Church was formally and legally established in Seoul, South Korea as The Holy Spirit Association for the Unification of World Christianity (HSA-UWC). In 1994, Moon changed the official name of the church to the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification.

Members are found throughout the world, with the largest number living in South Korea or Japan. Church membership is estimated to be several hundred thousand to a few million. In the English speaking world church members are sometimes referred to by the derogatory label "Moonies."

What is The Atheist Experience?

The Atheist Experience is a weekly cable access television show in Austin, Texas, geared at an atheist and non-atheist audience. The Atheist Experience is produced by the Atheist Community of Austin (ACA), a nonprofit educational corporation to develop and support the atheist community, to provide opportunities for socializing and friendship, to promote secular viewpoints, to encourage positive atheist culture, to defend the first amendment principle of state-church separation, to oppose discrimination against atheists and to work with other organizations in pursuit of common goals.

  • What a coincidence. I am Zimbabwean myself. I don't think i have heard of this church before. We do have some bad churchs that milk money from people

My mom is very religous (united methodist). A very kind lady. I have never seen her do anything i consider to be bad. My dad has been religous for the past 8yrs. As a child i wasn't forced to go to church. Sometimes i tried to believe in god. Around about the age of 15 i started seeing the flaws of christianity/religion. Strong atheist since 06'

  • Koreans must be the most gullible people in the World. Here in Sydney there are more Koreans going to church than anyone else. They are actually taking over churches in some suburbs, totally Korean, Totally christian and totally deluded.

  • @Stralya2000 and look at the north k's. talk about brainwashed!

  • The democratic world and the communist world have lost their direction completely,

and the religious world has also fully lost its direction.

All foundations in which men and women took pride have been destroyed.

No one puts their faith in these institutions any more.

    Everyone is looking for peace

  • lol half assed cults FTL

  • @ciaochowbella

I started with the motto of the Brotherhood of NOD from the Command & Conquer series and then added a whole bunch of creepy.

    Sounds like it worked :)

  • @Bigfoot10203 Atheists find LOTS of baseless beliefs interesting in much the same way people find fairy tales or fables interesting. Interest doesn't imply acquiesence or delusion.

  • @DeMause What a creepy motto.

  • Power through unity.

    Unity through peace.

    Peace through power.

  • I don't agree with the church at all! Moon is a weapon delear and a cult leader!

  • @newmind1 the caller still did not know the beliefs of our church. He's in the the 1 or 2% that don't agree with the church. But if you read the Divine Principle, many atheists find the teachings of the Unification Church interesting.

  • wow... i am saddened by your blindness
