When Mount Sinai's new Centre for Fertility and Reproductive Health opened in mid-2009, the facility contained a permanent, quarantined laboratory for the Viral Program. This is one of the few such programs in Canada open to couples in which at least one partner has a viral infection such as HIV/AIDS, or hepatitis B or C. Now, thanks to the dedicated space, the Centres fertility specialists can concurrently treat patients with different viruses, greatly expanding the treatment opportunities for this under-serviced population.
