Hey Just J - Loopy App Review (Live Looping)

Just found out about an amazing app for ipod/ipad/iphone that makes mobile live looping a BREEZE. 6 circles and TONS of power in a simple intuitive interface. All the other looping apps out there right now pale in comparison. Search for Loopy in the app store or check out their website:

I also use/recommend other looping software/hardware depending on your need/use.

If you have a decent sound card or audio interface and a computer/laptop ambiloop is a powerful FREE software for Windows. Has a tiny bit of a learning curve but it's really simple and gives you LOTS of power.

If you want tons of effects and just want to do very simple loops the BOSS VE-20 is a great little box. I got mine for $250 when they first came out but I think the price has gone up since. Great if you need to drop your vocals an octave to get booming bass, or if you want to get that auto tune sound. Even if you just want some harmonies or reverb it gives decent results.

@bellaben Yeah I'm using a Shure SM58 (which is pretty standard) with my iRig. I do have an impedance matcher connected to it as well because with your nicer mics the iRig tends to have really low volumes because it was made for guitars and not microphones and they have different impedances. Your cheap $8-10 mic with 1/4" plug will have a higher volume without the impedance matcher but they don't get bass tones very well.

Thanks a lot. So helpful. I was wondering: on your demo, do you play on extra beat at the same time your are pressing stop at the end of your phrase (on the beat 1 of what would be a second phrase? If so, why? Is it necessary?

@HuguesSarraBournet You don't HAVE to repeat the first beat when you press stop. Basically I do it to cover up any imperfections of starting the recording and make the loop more seamless. So if I accidentally came in a fraction of a second late when I started the recording it will be covered up with the beginning of the extra beat. (hopefully that makes sense). So it's not necessary just helps mask the beginning/ending of the loop.

why don´t u use the irig pre Mic interface?

there is a gain leveler and you dopn´t need the impedance matcher anymore...
