... the land which was always respected as our ancestors lived in harmony with her and with all nature ...

wtf? I will never be a sell out or assimilate and will always hold my teachings and culture close to my heart while living in todays world. Most of what I learned came from residential school survivors that endured and survived the forced assimilation. My prayers are with you.

i know i knew life like this once. i can feel it in my bones. and the great feeling of loss and UTMOST grief i feel when i see what we once were and what WE DID, well, i sob uncontrollably. HAVE WE EVER PUBLICLY APOLOGIZED AND GIVEN BACK THEIR LAND? OH, DEAR GOD, WHAT HAVE WE DONE??????????????????
and so many of us don't even realize, like i used to not, cuz we were TAUGHT something so different in school. i hope my people realize i was schooled very confusedly and didn't realize...
Look online and key in Jeanette Simons Declaration where even the spokeman for the Yosemite National Park states the Miwoks arrived in the region 800 years before the park was established. You and the park service just can get it correct. One last question, Who do you think is buried under the old Fitzwater Excavation in 1962? The inventory of the park service documents they are not Miwok!

How do you know this to be true? If the Miwoks wee in Yosemite National Park 8 thousand years prior, why did they have a Paiute Chief called Tenaya? What does Tenaya mean in Miwok? Answer Nothing! What does it mean in the Paiute language, Answer Our Father!

Yosemite has been destroyed by the United States Parks "Service," and the hordes of humanity that visits the valley. I say the valley should be dynamited closed after the roads and parking lots and buildings are removed.

@Desertphile Yosemite has been destroyed by the United States Parks "Service, as well as the NPS rewriting the First Discovery of Yosemite. As you may have noted the story of the Paiute Chief of the Ahwahneechee has been erased with the Indian history beginning at 1870, instead of 1851.

The Valley is only 7 miles long and a mile wide, but attracts millions of people each year, must say something in regard to a spiritual place. Thank You for the comments.

The song IS a Great Basin song performed by Gayle Hansen-Johnson. The Great Basin reached all the way into California. This is not a "pan-Indian" song but a Paiute song. The singer is a member of the Bishop Paiute tribe and also a Death Valley Shoshone, both of those tribes are in California. Thanks for asking because this clarifies that the song is not 'pan-Indian' but a rather a distinct Paiute-Shoshone song, which includes California Paiutes and Shoshones.
