The Rio Open 2011 was held in january, at Macumba Beach, in Rio de Janeiro. Skimmers from many parts of the state of Rio de Janeiro showed up at the beach and made it a super fun contest.
In the first day, the waves were small but some skimmers even managed to get some barrels and also land some tech tricks . By the end of the day, the wind picked up and made the conditions really bad as you can see in the video... The semifinals and the final heat were postponed to the following day in the morning, so that the skimmers could skim some decent waves.
In the next day, Lucas Gomes, Vitor Melilo, Gustavo and Raphael Bastos made the first semifinal, in which Lucas Gomes and Vitor Melilo advanced for the final heat, meanwhile in the other semifinal Guilherme Vaz, Pedro Sias, Matheus Chiabi and Thiago Sapo made a sick heat in which G Vaz and Pedro Sias advanced for the final.
Lucas Gomes, Vitor Melilo, Pedro Sias and Guilherme Vaz simply killed it in the final heat, landing all types of tech tricks and making it a difficult decision for the judges to elect the winner. They ended up choosing Lucas Gomes as the winner, followed by Guilherme Vaz, Vitor Melilo and Pedro Sias.
