The JKA is the oldest school of Shotokan Karate. The Pinan/Heian series of katas were derived from the Chiang Nan/Channan kata who was broken down in 5 to be easier to learn. Most Karate types share at least some katas and this series is often used as a great foundation for beginers.

@BonePizza Oh, I thought you were referring to Kata's in general. In Shotokan Karate the first Kata we have to learn for the Yellow belt is the Heian.

@GamerGuyX2009 I do know taikyoku, Pinan, and empi, but not this one.

haha the first kata :) i knew all the heian katas and the katas for black belt( i forgot name knew them like 3 years ago) lovely to c them back gonna practise again:D

Isn't he supposed to be on the same height with his head ? You know what I mean, he Isn't on a boat...
why does he speed up on the last two moves of each of the sets facing toward and away from the camera (right before the first ki-ai and before the last 270 turn)? If that's how it's supposed to be done then I know a lot of people doing it wrong.

it's called ren-zoku-waza - and yes they are supposed to be done this way.
