  • @hultonclint Thanks for your response. I wrote my comment to share with those who might be interested that there is (or was) a game song in Trinidad whose title is similar to the shanty.I agree with the points that you make in your comment that the source of the shanty could be the game song, or vice versa, or a land based work song. Or the source could be something else.

  • @Azizip17 The recording in Trinidad was 1962. That does not equal "lives on." And for all we know, the game song may have been the source for the chanty, or both the game song and the chanty may have come out of a share source, perhaps a land-based work song.

  • Oldie but goodie.  Great for learning the words.
