I had to cut out the first lap of this battle to get the video under 10 minutes.
This was one of the first super intense online races I can remember having -- back in 2003. It seems almost tame in comparison to more recent rFactor battles, but certainly it's at much higher speeds -- up to 200 mph.
After a collision at the start of the race, I had fallen well back. I caught up to another Honda driver by about 1.5 to 2 seconds per lap, but at a slipstreaming track such as Reims, it's difficult to get clear of someone!
Sometimes, we were both off the throttle, trying to let the other guy go ahead first so that we could slipstream past into the next corner. I wasn't very good under braking in those days. I also had a longer top gear, which allowed me to slipstream better, but it did hurt acceleration a little bit (which was worse when chasing the super lightweight Ferrari with my super heavyweight Honda).
Watch what happens when we pass a waving yellow flag and find a BRM stalled on course! That was a hairy moment...
At the start of the video, we are 4th and 5th. Eventually, a Brabham goes off and we are 3rd and 4th. By the end of the video, I have passed a Ferrari into 2nd and you can the leading Honda a short distance ahead. He would eventually spin off and I would win the race, as I recall.
Reims was a circuit on public roads in France which was often in contest with Spa in Belgium and Monza in Italy for title of the fastest racing circuit in the world. Today, a few of the grandstands and advertising boards are still standing -- barely. A committee recently has been formed to restore some of the structures for their historical significance.

Great battle! Is it possible to get this track on Rfactor?

There is one in development, or at least was. I don't know if they're still working on it or are holding out to make it for rF2 at this point.
