This is another style of the Humoresque which includes licks from both of Chet's 1954 &1959 performances. Adding both styles together really brings this tune to life as you'll see when watching the video. This tune is played on a Gretsch G5120.

  • Hmmm...sponsored by daddy I guess... ask him if he'll buy me one too!!! very good playing!

  • @arva300178 Thank you for the compliment!...I buy all of my own guitars.

  • From start to finish, how do you figure out that the chords on these songs?.. Also on this one, do have a dropped E again to D?

  • @TheMemphisSlim I figured out the chords mostly by watching chet play this on a DVD. I am playing in the key of A...no the E is not dropped to a D. Thanks for watching!

  • is the piano behind you a Pleyel?

  • @enanotodo The piano behind me is a Kimball Baby Grand.

  • Excellent playing.

  • Wow, you're channeling Chet!

  • Just great! You can have all those mindless 'shredders' with nothing but muscle-memory pentatonics...

  • Bravo!

I just bought my wife a new G5120, and came across your video in my search for related clips. Your tone sounds like Chet's to my ear. I guess the stock pups will do! All we have here in the motel is a teeny little battery amp, so it's hard to judge the tone.

    .

  • Very impressive! I love the classical version of Humoresque and I was looking for some guitar versions and found yours. I don't know how you play this with a straight face as it is truly a hilarious piece of music. Thanks for providing me some joy on this Sunday afternoon!

  • What kind of amp do you use?

  • very good! I love seeing people play music..it's a gift from God that we all enjoy

  • you are so good real good

  • Your guitar playing is simply marvelous!

  • This was amazing! Fantastic tone and ability, on a very complicated piece of music. Bravo, it was stellar!

  • What a breath of fresh air! Great pickin'. More please.

  • Thank you for keeping Chets fingerstyle of playing going. I hope other young talented guitarists hear you and also learn this style of guitar playing. Chet Atkins played the guitar for everybody. That is why so many people miss him. But now we have you, Philip and many more to carry on.

  • cool stuff!! Keep playing. we'll all keep smiling!

  • bravo ! il faut continuer a travailler ! et ce sera bon ! encor dix ans ! Chet ne se joue pas facilement.

  • Thank you for the music. You ought to borrow a Gibson and do one of these. Gretsch would probably offer you a guitar deal. Maybe not the big bucks yet, but a guitar every couple of years wouldn't be bad. You certainly sell guitars for Gretsch. It is not just the quality of your play, which is superb, but your demeanor while playing, which makes us want to do what you are doing. Thank you again for the music. I love watching and listening to you play. God Bless You. Jeff Hamer

i bought one of these and i'm having some trouble with the knobs...

i know the knob really close the the neck is master volume, but i can't seem to find what the other knobs are...

sounds like a really stupid problem i know, but i've looked all over the internet for some sort of diagram and can't find anything. ):

  • @BJBorchert93 There are a lot fo excellent women who play. Check out Rory Block on YouTube. Anyone who can pretty much match Robert Johnson's playing style must be good.

  • @BluegrassForte very inspiring, I would like to ask you something, Can you suggest me a method or music from some artist where i can practice this style?

  • great job been playing 40 years i cant do it to many bad habits from the begining can only flub my way through good to see you doing the wood sheding you got what it takes thanks
