Am I the only one getting tired of people calling this music "desert blues" or "mali blues" etc? I personally think they are two styles that developed fairly independently of each other, and beyond the pentatonic scale and plaintive nature of both genres, it's a stretch to try to reach for common ground. But it's a great marketing gimmick.

never mind the hassling over names and styles. Mali may be one of the poorest countries on Earth economically, it is one of the richest countries when it comes to music!!!
