Mr Lim elaborated: "There are only two persons who pay when it comes to public transport fares. One, I use - I pay. Or two, I use - you help me subsidise my ride. What happens when you subsidise my rides? That means the taxpayers are now paying."

  • "because the public transport fare is not directly linked to the oil prices."

    "Not linked."

"We link it to national factors."

"You know like the inflation level in Singapore and the wage level in the whole of Singapore."

    Nice try.

  • We link it to national factors like wages? Our fucking wages isn't going up, why are transport fees going up?

  • Arrogant!

  • Now is pre-election time, why recently no more new gantries build ha?

    Add more gantries now la?

  • The political elite don't know how it's like to take a train during peak hours. It's a sorry sight to see ladies, putting aside their modesty, having to push their way into a packed train car during the morning rush hours. Surely the good Minister and his team have the wherewithal to solve the problem of train over-crowding?

  • Mr Lim, who is subsidising the building of roads, highways and carparks to accomodate the ever growing private car population? I believe it's tax payers in Singapore. If public transport - I don't even know if I can call it that right now seeing the way it's run currently - can be free, I don't mind paying for it in taxes because I would rather have less traffic, less pollution and a better quality of life than to support an unsustainable situation like the one we have right now.

  • what national factor??

  • Then recently they dipped the price a little and put up huge posters in their buses with the words in big font : "LOWER BUS FARES". I suppose this is AFTER all the complaints and petitions, and BEFORE the General Elections.

  • What bullshit from Raymond Lim! Can't the government use the millions of dollars they make daily from the ERP to subsidize public transport? Since the ERP is supposed to encourage more people to take public transport anyway. Why is it even that our public transport companies are making a profit? His tone is so arrogant as if he is giving a lecture to ignorant plebs rather than discussing an important national issue.
