Numbers 13-14

What We Must Model And Teach In Order To
Leave A Legacy Of Faith
1. An Openness To Hear From God.
Numbers 13:1-3 "The Lord said to Moses, "Send men to explore the land of Canaan. I will give that land to the Israelites. Send one leader from each tribe." So Moses obeyed the Lord's command. He sent the Israelite leaders out from the Desert of Paran."

Jesus said..."My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me." John 10:27 (NIV)
"Some people have gotten out of the habit of meeting for worship, but we must not do that. We should keep on encouraging each other, especially since you know that the day of the Lord's coming is getting closer." Hebrews 10:25 (CEV)
2. A Willingness To Follow God's Lead.
"Explore the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the Israelites,...so they went up and explored the land ." v. 2, 21 (NIV)
"Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths." Proverbs 3:5-6 (NKJV)
"For the eyes of the LORD move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His." 2 Chronicles 16.9 (NASB)
3. A Readiness To Lay Aside Distractions.
"We went in to the land where you sent us; and it certainly does flow with milk and honey, and this is its fruit. Nevertheless..." Numbers 13:27-28 (NASB)
"Caleb silenced the people before Moses and said, "We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it." Numbers 13:30 (NIV)
"If any of you wants to be my follower, you must put aside your selfish ambition, shoulder your cross, and follow me." Matthew 16:24 (NLT)
4. An Ability To Ignore The Critics.
"But the men who had gone up with him said, "We can't attack those people; they are stronger than we are...we seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we looked the same to them." Numbers 13:31, 33 (NIV)
"They said to each other, "We should choose a leader and go back to Egypt." Numbers 14:4 (NIV)
5. A Commitment To Stay Focused On God.
"Joshua and Caleb, who were among those who had explored the land, tore their clothes and said to the entire Israelite assembly, "The land we passed through and explored is exceedingly good. If the LORD is pleased with us, he will lead us into that land, a land flowing with milk and honey, and will give it to us. Only do not rebel against the LORD. And do not be afraid of the people of the land, because we will swallow them up. Their protection is gone, but the LORD is with us. Do not be afraid of them." Numbers 14:6-9 (NIV)
