Miss Tibet 2008

Tibetans-in-exile held their annual Miss Tibet beauty contest in Dharamsala, India over the weekend. The show causes controversy with some Tibetans, who believe it is inappropriate.

STORY:
The pageant saw only two Tibetan beauties vie for the title this year, but they showcased their talent in front of judges and a packed audience.

After competing for four rounds, Miss Tibet 2008 was announced.

[Sonam Cheodon, Miss Tibet 2008]:
"I know that there are many Tibetan women who are very talented and beautiful. I would like to urge them all to come forward and take part in the pageant."

This is the seventh year for the Miss Tibet beauty pageant. It attracts only a handful of contestants but
plenty of controversy. When the pageant started in 2002, the majority of the four short-listed girls backed out facing pressure from community leaders.

In 2005, the reigning Miss Tibet was forced to withdraw from beauty pageants in Zimbabwe and Malaysia after objections from the Chinese Communist Party.

No worries my friend... Something to consider about the middle and upper class that say things are great in china is the fact that it is only ok for them so long as they are in line with what the government tells them to do. they are slaves as well, just obedient slaves that get perks for being obedient. They are no different than a trusty in a prison cell, the moment they alter their behavior they will be beaten back into submission.

If I had spent more time reading your comment I wouldn't have commented on it, so sorry about that.

But anyway on "List of ethnic groups in China" on wiki it says

"The Han Chinese are the largest ethnic group, where some 91.59%"

I've met Chinese from China who say things are great in China. But no doubt they are middle or upper class urban Chinese who aren't Falun Gong practitioners.

So , the people in this thread commenting on how great China is in reference to its government are really mindless slaves that have little control over their lives because the government dictates to them as well. Mao slaughtered Chinese people even more than tibetan people but there are people who identify themselves as Chinese who praise Mao and his form of government, how naive and disappointing.

I never said they were chinese. I was making the point that even the people who are identified as being chinese today are mostly something else and have their own language and cultures. Of course Tibetans, Mongolians, Uighurs, and many more are not Chinese. I was also trying to show that the people who are identified as being Chinese and think of themselves as Chinese are slaves to their government.

All tibetan people are beautiful. I only wish for peace, understanding, and liberty for all people. The Chinese are slaves to the government as well, they were just far more submissive than the Tibetans (not that I am judging the other so called chinese groups). There really is no chinese in the way people think. China is made up of hundreds of minority groups all with their own language. The government is stripping them of their identities.
