This is a fandabulous exercise for building strength in your back and it works your abs really well too.

Tips -
(1) So you are using your back rather than your biceps don't grip with your thumbs.

(2) Plus as you're doing the movement mentally focus on your back.

(3) If you are finding it hard to balance in a Batfink then work on your lower abs by doing hanging leg raises or planks! Your lower abs act as a craddle in the Batfink.

*NB* Please consult a doctor before starting any new exercise programme.

  • Hi buddy, I tried this earlier on in a park using a wide parallel bar but when I coil my legs up I inevitably somersaulted and landed on the platform. How do you manage to keep your legs up there and stay in equilibrium? I just can't. Thanks for inputs

  • Hey Baleheads! Here's the rub: You need to develop the srength in your lower abs because they act as a craddle that helps you stay balanced. Don't bother with floor crunches. What I find really good are hanging leg raises!! Thanks for commenting you've given me something to add to the description!!

  • Hey thanks buddy! I will start on my leg raises soon. My abs routine has always been alternate side crunches because they work the lower abs as well and I would hit a thousand reps a day.

  • No worries!!

  • I can't get this right! I can't curl my legs and keep them in position whenever I try this. Sigh, I'm giving up T_T

  • Baleheads give it more than a week to strengthen your abs. With time you'll get it and it'll be one of them EUREKA moments!!

  • Thanks brother! I will keep trying :)

  • Dude I'm loving this exercise. You have really innovative ways to train without going to the gym. I've never thought of this method using the parallel bars. Thanks man
