1983? Perhaps but I played with Sun Ra and the Arkestra at the Chicago Jazz Festival in 1980 or '81 and it was broadcast on NPR and PBS. It was Herbie Hancock and VSOP (with a teenage Wynton Marsalis), Carmen McRae and us. Mayor Jayne Byrne requested that we play the music of Fletcher Henderson! This particular date here looks like it has Luqman Ali on drums. The date I mentioned has Eric Walker (Samuri), Lex Humphries and myself on drums. This was recorded in Chicago and broadcast live over WTTW the public television channel. I was there live and it was an incredible evening. This video was from the second broadcast and the best of Ra's performance had been cut. I believe the date was in the Fall of 1983 and was part of the Chicago jazz festival held every year.
