Ive been taught roads arent the best idea. But it seems better than a field that may have potholes and micro terrain. Or mudddy.. Etc. at night especially. A lighted road souds good but be wary of powerlines and trees! Its the object u dont see which kills you sadly.

As a pilot myself, I don't understand why this is such a big story. If an engine quits, you get to your best glide speed and then find a place to put the aircraft down. In this case, the pilot chooses a six lane highway. It was a good choice since this highway is wider than most runways.
