  • is that 2 cycle?

  • Hummin Dozen

  • cop's 'r gonna loooooove citing the noise

  • ANY UPDATES? im craving for one! Thanks sevenson6!

  • do you still have this truck?

  • @Alrgc2Air Yes..actually there is 3, but only One, is still retained by GM....and that "Detroit Diesel" is actually under AM General and mfg'd by that divisions GEP (General Engine Products) of which the current "light duty

line up of (automotive) diesels are produced, including the military Hummv's.

The medium & heavy duty Detroit Diesel is no longer a part of GM whatsoever, and is split in two with the ON-Hwy truck div. owned by Daimler-Benz & OFF-hwy owned TOGNUM / MTU...Germany.

  • @TurbinePower69 - Interesting info.... So basically there were two divisions of Detroit Diesel? Or did the original division just change it's focus?

  • @Alrgc2Air None in tanks, but replacements in APC's, gen sets, etc, etc. The Hummers do use "detroits"

...however, most people get confused with the difference between the "modern day" Detroit diesel that

produced the diesels (four cycle) for hummers, etc (really, GM Diesel) and the INDUSTRIAL Detroit Diesel

that was Originally, GM Diesel, and produced the two cycle diesels for marine, industrial, military and

heavy truck apps. and now 4 cycle.

  • @TurbinePower69 - tank engines?Or just replacements for repowering existing trucks? I'm under the impression that the miltary Hummers use the 6.5 Detroit...

  • @Alrgc2Air Yes, 8V53's were built....many used in Military and various industrial applications...have even seen

    a few in class 8 trucks..but, very rare. The 6v53, 8v71 & 8v92's are still being produced NEW...primarily for

the military, though some get channeled off to the marine sector.
