Addressing the All Party Committee, the President has stressed that this is not the time to look for differences but the time to look for similarities..
The President said that providing solace to the broken hearts of those people is the duty of everybody. It should not be confined to the government or just one party. President Rajapaksa expressed these views when the All Party committee met at the Presidential Secretariat this morning. The innocent people who had lost all their rights to terrorism were rescued in the humanitarian operation. Now it is time to launch a humanitarian mission to heal the hearts of these people. The President said that the enmities should be left to the past and goodwill should be carried forward. He said that there will not be any development without unification. The leaders of UNP, TNA, JVP and all main political parties that represent the opposition attended the meeting on the invitation of the President.
Members of the ruling party as well as the opposition expressed their satisfaction about the all party meeting.
Minister Vinayagamurthi Muralitharan expressed his happiness about the participation. He said that this internal issue should be discussed with the President. Minister Douglas Devananda said that the proposals were accepted in good faith and expressed confidence that this would provide benefits to the Tamil people. TNA Parliamentarian Shivanathan Kishore said that such discussions should be continued. They also tabled their proposals.
TULF leader V. Anandasangaree said it is for the first time that all party leaders and representatives met the President. He expressed hope that this trend would continue.
