2010 Southern Pines Horse Trials - Advanced XC - Part 1 of 2

Spring is here and what a beautiful way to kick off advanced eventing in USEA Area II! And what a difference this was from my last trip to see a horse trial - water logged Fair Hill 2009. I love this event because some of these teams will be going to Rolex 2010 in a few weeks. Stephen Bradley, Boyd Martin and Phillip Dutton filled in for Amy Tryon, Bruce Davidson and Jan Byyny respectively.

Shot with a Lumix GH1 at 720/60P, stock lens and a Rode microphone. Some rolling shutter issues, but otherwise decent images. Ungraded but conformed to 720/30P MPEG2 for upload to YouTube with Studio 14.

My first time doing video of eventing with a DSLR. The trees and fast moving horses posed a challenge to the autofocus and I really miss having a servo-zoom, but I'm very pleased with the results.

Nice work. I was searching for examples of "rolling shutter" but was surprised to see so little in this video. Does the 60p reduce the effect?

@JDHogg Yeah, just the trees in the background on occasion. You need to use high shutter speeds to minimize it.

i went through southern pines once... if you blink, you miss... its basically not on the radar of anything cultural, sophisticated or interesting... its an isolated little redneck community so desperately trying to be something that it isnt.
