http://www.karenrothnutrition.com Holistic Nutrition Consultant, Karen Roth, MS, NC discusses healthy frozen treats.

The traditional Popsicle you see on shelves contains no fruit or fruit juice what so ever. What do they use to make if taste like a fruity pop? Artificial Flavors for one, Maltodextrin which is another word for Sugar is in the Sugar Free pops, go figure, These are loaded with artificial colors, because remember there is NO Fruit in these. So lets look at those,

Yellow 6 is linked to allergies,

Yellow 5 should be avoided by people sensitive to aspirin and who have asthma. By law it must be listed because it causes such bad reactions as skin rashes and asthma symptoms.

Red 40 replaced the banned Red 2 and may cause cancer in animals.

There here come the artificial sweeteners. Acesulfame Potassium (ACE-K) has been found to cause tumors in animal.

Aspartame, which has had more complaints filed with the FDA than any other food substance. Its been linked to brain damage, central nervous system disturbances and in one study linked low doses of aspartame to leukemia in rats.

Lets take a look at another popular brand that actually contains fruit puree and fruit juice. That's great, but what can we do to ruin this? Call it sugar free and then add in the toxic artificial sweeteners Ace-K and Sucrolose also called Splenda.

Ace-K artificial sweetener that has been found to cause tumors in animal.

Splenda 600 sweeter than sugar and stimulates the taste buds for more sugar. It contains chlorine, Its considered an Organochlorine is in the same class as the chemical Mustard Gas and the solvent Chloroform. I'm not making this stuff up, read the book Sweet Deception for more details.

Many of the frozen treats list Natural flavor. natural flavors often contain MSG a flavor enhancer not just of salty foods!

So what now? Frozen berries and grapes very refreshing

If you really want a frozen pop and recommend Cool Fruits. They are 99% fruit juice, with no artificial colors, sweeteners or additives. And under 25 calories each.
