Many years Urs looked after his aging mother. But now he sets out for a dangerous journey:
He carries her up a mountain to find a better place for both of them. But his mother doesnt want to leave her home...

"Urs" is a 10-minute animated short-film with which Moritz Mayerhofer graduated at the Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany. He worked three years to create a deep atmospheric film where he would find the fragile relationship of a man to his mother in the middle of a giantic set of mountains.

  • And what was the song in the background?

  • @JDdirector3 The Score for 'Urs' was composed by the very talented composer Peter Gromer. The Trailer uses parts of the Soundtrack.

  • my favourite for Oscar!

Thank you, also to the others who like the film so much. It was very much work, for me and the whole team, so I'm incredibly happy about seeing 'Urs' on the shortlist.

Hope to show you more about the production of the film very soon!

  • Hi There!

First of all: Thank you for your nice comments!!

I hope that all of you will see 'Urs' in the near future. It will take some time until it's online as it first makes the tour at the Festivals.

The name 'Urs' really originates from the latin word "ursus" which means "bear". I used it for the main-character as he has a bear-like figure. His main problem is how he can "bear" the responsibility for his weak mother and the bad living conditions. That's the initiation of the whole story.

  • hey what program did you use?

  • So was he selfish for making the old lady leave the home she wants?

  • @SChaos1701

    where ?

  • I saw it last night...it was amazing.

  • I saw this last night with the other film nominations. I was in tears, and today I am still effected by it. This is a sign of a great work. It stays with the viewers. I was elated seeing "The Lost Thing" find a place it belonged, and could live joyfully; then URS struck close to a raw wound. I know the heart ache of caring for a soul trapped in an aged body. For a moment I thought he'd be selfish and leave her, and then he strapped her on his back. The ending was so sad... to real for me.

  • seems beautiful animation. wanna see full version :)

  • @moemayerhofer I sure do hope you'll put it up if it gets an Oscar nom!
