New Update: OPTIFINE IS RELEASED FOR 1.8. AGAIN, THE SAME METHOD BUT HERE'S THE DOWNLOAD (pretty self-explanatory, classic is standard, smooth is better, multithreaded is for dual-core/quad-core CPU's eg Core 2 Duo, Core 2 Quad, Intel i5, i3, i7, etc)

UPDATE: OPTIFOG+OPTIMINE HAVE BEEN UPDATED TO 1.7.3. IT'S THE SAME METHOD, BUT HERE'S THE DOWNLOAD: http://adf.ly/23AuO

Using the Optimine+Optifog mods for Minecraft, you can boost performance (FPS) and stop lag on older machines. The latest versions of these mods are for Minecraft Beta 1.7.3

Download link for the Optimine+Optifog combined mod package

(thanks to mpgh - that's where i got it)

I used a Hewlett-Packard nc6220 machine for this running Ubuntu 11.04. The graphics are an Intel 915GM/900GMA Mobile Express Chipset and the processor was an Intel Pentium M running at 1.73GHz (single core)

Without the mods, I got 5-7fps on Render Distance: Tiny with everything turned down to low. With the mods, I got 8-9fps on Render Distance: Far and everything turned off and 11-14fps on Render Distance: Tiny. With everything turned up, I did get 3fps with mods installed and it crashed without mods.

Note: It may look laggy but only because I am recording. In normal SSP, it looks good.

  • Dude, as soon as I copy all the .class files in and delete meta-inf the .jar stops being executable. No idea why. Do you need to use any other programs to make optifine work? I'm using the newest versions of both. 1.8.1

  • @Basszilla No, which OS are you using?

  • My Minecraft crashes every couple minutes using this mod, and it pisses me off because the mod improves my fps drastically. It's pretty much the only thing that makes playing sufferable. I've heard plenty of complaints saying the same thing but apparently the entire internet has no idea why. Most people don't have this problem. I've resorting to trolling through YouTube comments for fucks sake.

I've tried every combination of visual settings imaginable.

    Intel Series(4) Chipset Family.

  • @ManicRevelation Again, there may be a mod confliction but I don't know for sure.

  • I cant' seem to get the mod to work..I'm not using any other mods or MCPatcher, and I am using ModLoader. Minecraft just crashes every time I try to load a world. Can't see what I'm doing wrong...=/

  • @slayer9700 It may be conflicting with one of those mods I don't know.

  • @BlackDeathGaming i did this and it just black screens when i log in, the only other thing i am using is MCPatcher, if thats even a mod

  • @BlackDeathGaming dude you sound like harry potter

  • @hiavatch It seems that whenever I delete META-INF the jar file becomes useless. It won't let me use it as an executable file. No idea why. Just to let people know, I'm a Ubuntu n00b so go easy on me. I'm doing my best to learn though!

  • @BlackDeathGaming I'm using Ubuntu 11.4 There's an install guide on the page for it, but it works to no avail. In other it doesn't work. The game is playable, but just. If I can find a way to boost it I have to :O

  • @Basszilla I have the same problem. Loading minecraft from the shell I get this: Invalid or corrupt jarfile, followed by the path to the jarfile! Very frustrating. I've tried the default archive manager (using ubuntu 10.10), xarchiver, and winrar in a windows partition! I've also tried extracting and re-compressing. Each time, I deleted meta-inf folder and copied in the class files from the zip.

  • THANK YOU!!!!!
