Nov 6, 2009 - 300km+ flight from Logan, UT to Pocatello, ID and back using mainly ridge lift in ASW-20 glider. Fantastic scenery of the mountains and a new understanding that soaring is great fun in the winter months too! More info visit http://phoebus.vassel.com

  • How does one learn to fly ridges?

  • @starwarsjazz Very carefully! :) Once you have 100+ hours in gliders you should be able to start flying mountains with the help of a local mentor to show you the ropes. Mountains are amazing but can be unforgiving. Good to be prepared before going up into them. Thanks for watching. Bruno

  • have u ever stalled ur glider

  • @theairsoftguy57 Sure. I have stalled it quite a bit - especially when I first got it. I have never stalled it close to the mountain however. Always high up with plenty of altitude to recover.

  • what's causing the image distortion? Anyway, awesome video!

  • @ewthmatth The camera has a very wide angle lens or you would only see about half of what you are seeing in this video. It distorts the pic but you can see more like what the pilot is really seeing.

  • @YouTubilify Inexpensive is very relative. Yes, I could fly in areas like this in my first glider, a 1967 Phoebus that cost me $10,000 but I had to fly it a lot slower due to it not being able to comfortably handle the turbulence. You can make this flight any day in a $25,000+ glider. Ridge soaring is not forgiving. I lost a close friend a year ago when his glider stalled and spun on the ridge. I personally recommend at least a couple hundred hours if not more. Bruno

  • ha the old rotor in the lee sure is a rough ride ! great stuff!

  • I guess your using a 3.1/F 7.5mm lens. (5:01)

  • Well done!!

  • @bviv ok...cool....how many negative g's do u think u went through when u stall it
