The commissioning ceremony of the Arleigh Burke class destroyer USS Hopper (DDG 70) in San Francisco, on 6 September 1997. The ship is named for Rear Admiral Grace Murray Hopper, a long serving naval officer, and a legendary pioneer in the field of computer science. Speakers include Secretary of Defense William Perry and Senator Barbara Boxer. Footage of the 1996 launching of USS Hopper is also included.
