Reconstruction of the Yodawewa Reservoir under the Uthuru Wasanthaya programme is being expedited.
The reconstruction is being carried out under the 180-day accelerated development programme. It is being supervised by Chief of the Uthuru Wasanthaya Task Force and Senior Presidential Advisor and Parliamentarian Basil Rajapaksa on the instructions of the President. The reservoir will help irrigate 30 thousand acres of paddy land at Murukkan in Mannar.
Chief Engineer of the Yodawewa Reservoir Krishna Ruben said the reconstruction is due to be completed by the 30th of September. It will incur an expenditure of 385 million rupees. The allocation made for the construction of canals and dams is 25 million rupees. The length of the tank bund is about seven kilometers. 6550 farmer families will benefit. It is a mega project mooted in the Mannar District.
