The Fab@School Project is a nationwide collaborative that has come together around a common vision of integrating STEM education into elementary and middle schools by incorporating digital fabrication into classrooms.
Founded at the University of Virginia Curry School of Education, the Fab@School Project also includes Cornell University School of Engineering, Hofstra University Center for STEM Research, the Society for Information Technology and Teacher Education, FableVision Learning, the Reynolds Center for Teaching, Learning, & Creativity, Canon USA, and Graphtec America / Silhouette America.
FableVision is playing a key role in the Fab@School Project, including spearheading the development of Fab@School Designer, software with which students and teachers can design 2D and 3D objects. Under recent funding from the U.S. Department of Education, a prototype of Fab@School Designer was developed and tested with groups of children and with pre-service teachers at the University of Virginia.
To date, the Fab@School Project has received funding from the MacArthur Foundation, National Science Foundation, Motorola Foundation, and the U.S. Department of Education.
