A ride on the reconstructed Virginia and Truckee Railroad, from Virginia City to Carson City, Nevada. This trip takes us over the brand-new track that was built as part of the reconstruction project.
The V&T was built in 1869 and abandoned in 1950. In 1976 Bob Gray relaunched the railroad in Virginia City, and by 1990 was running trains to Gold Hill. The State of Nevada built new track from Gold Hill to Carson City between 2005 and 2009.
Part 3 shows the engine doodling around in the Carson City station, then leaving to head back up to Virginia City.
@bcschmerker Retiming a locomotive with Walscharts requires lengthing and shortening radius rods and checking fit of a tapered valve stem, and checking your combo lever. Not a new #3 drive axle. She now saves over 700 gallons of water and doesn't need to replenish her water half way up the road and sounds square.

The 29-spot is a transitional steamer for the Baldwin Locomotive Works, packing both Walschärts "monkey-motion" valve gear and slide-type valves on the cylinders (Baldwin used piston-type valves on later builds). Re-timing this locomotive probably means a new #3 drive axle, as that axle this video was apparently twisted.

As of March 2010 they were fixing the timing issue. We'll see on the March 15 railfan special how #29 performs.

So, this is where the station will be next year. Hmm. Can't wait to go back to Virginia City!

Interesting video.
On August 15, 2009 I shot digital pictures of the first ever passenger revenue V&T steam train to run from Carson City to Virginia City since the year 1938, I made a slide show of the pictures and the vid is on my youtube account.
