Here's how the animation is done:

Spend about 1 hour per second of movie...

1. Find a video of a pirouette and make screenshots of each frame (in this case: about 40 frames that show 3 turns of the pirouette). Print them and cut out along the outlines of the dancer, glue on wooden sticks. We now have 40 puppets to play with.

2. Paint door on cardboard and cut out the door opening. Now make a stop-motion animation of the ballerina coming out of the door, dancing, disappearing again. In each frame we take the 'next' puppet (being a circular movement, the step between the last and the first is seamless). We now have about 120 fotos. Print and cut off the white edges.

3. Use cardboard to create a simple house. Each facade has the size of one of our fotos (A4 in this case). Use non-permanent glue to put the first 4 fotos on the walls of the house. Start making a stop-motion animation of the rotating house. As soon as foto nr. 1 is rotated out of sight, replace it with foto nr. 5, nr. 2 with nr. 6 and so on. We end up with more than 400 fotos and are ready to convert them into a video. I used Quicktime Pro in this case.

Hope this gets you started :-)

Guess I'm just a bit imperceptive...

  • No, no, you didn't see it because it was not there - I wrote the explanation in reply of your question! Cheers!
